Mr. John F. "Jack" McLaughlin, 79 of Norwell died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late John and Bertha (Nelson) McLaughlin, he was born in Boston on July 28, 1930. He graduated Boston Technical School in 1947 when he was 16 years old and attended Boston College but left to enlist in the Army and served from 1951 to 1953 as a Staff Sergeant. He was a Korean War Veteran and Director of Operations of the USS Salem, part of the US Naval Shipbuilding Museum in Quincy. Jack was the Facilities Manager at Raytheon in Quincy where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1992. He was one of the founders of the Norwell Youth Hockey Association and coached Norwell Youth Hockey for many years. He was a Life member of the Knights of Columbus Rose Croix Council, a member of the Samuel Turner Post American Legion, and avid fisherman, hunter, longtime Bruins fan, an avid Boston Herald reader, a member of St. Helen's Parish Council, a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Marion (Moriarty) McLaughlin, 6 children, Sheila Brown and her husband, Stephen of Hingham, Paula Dwinell and her husband Joe of Holliston, John McLaughlin Jr and Cynthia Rousseau of Norwell, Maura McLeod and her husband Kevin of Hanover, Pamela Berigan and her husband Paul of Hingham and Anthony McLaughlin and his wife Veronica on Norwell. He was the brother of Louise Landen of Westboro, Eugene McLaughlin of SC, James McLaughlin of ME, Mary McSoley of Westwood, Michael McLaughlin of Duxbury and Thomas McLaughlin of East Harwich and the late Gerald McLaughlin. Much loved grandfather of 16 grandchildren. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass on Thursday at 10 AM in St. Helen Church, 383 Washington St., Rte 53 in Norwell. Interment in Washington Street Cemetery in Norwell. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack's name may be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen St., Framingham MA 01701 or to the Friends of the Norwell Council on Aging, PO Box 699 Norwell MA 02061.
