Mr. Charles G. Rose, 87 of Hanover died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Plymouth. The son of the late Charles and Inez Rose he was born in Boston on October 6, 1922. He was raised and educated in Dorchester and has lived in Hanover for 50 years. Mr. Rose served in the Army as a Radio Technician during WWII. Because of his expertise he was loaned to the Navy and the Seabee's.
Our Dad. Charles survived Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. An extraordinary man he is survived by five children, Charles George Rose Sr. of Fayetteville, Georgia , Mary Patricia Hoitt of Plymouth, Inez Helen Rose of Hanover, William Joseph Rose of Hanover and Kathleen Naples of Plymouth. Charles is also survived by 17 grandchildren Charles G. Rose 3rd, Kimberly Wilson, Robert Hoitt, James Hoitt, William Hoitt, Michael Ledoux, Nicole Wise, William Rose Jr., Daniel Rose, Hannah Rose, Ian Rose, Robert Carleton, Katrina Ellis and Christopher Carleton, Angela Manson, Daniel Naples and Michele Naples. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
Charles worked with the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Boston for 38 years as Chief Electrician/Engineer. He was married to the late Virginia A. Rose. Charles was the guy everyone went to in the neighborhood where he lived to get things fixed. He was always helping out with anyone who needed it. He grew up in Dorchester and was known as a "tinkerer" of sorts. Self made auto mechanic, refrigeration repairman, you name it, he took a sixth grade education and built a career and raised five children. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rest in peace, Dad.
Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Friday from 4-7 PM. Funeral on Saturday at 9 AM St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Hanover Center Cemetery.
